Zelda U | But Why?

Nintendo announced back in 2013 their expansion to the Zelda universe was in the works for the Wii U. With a confirmed release date of 2015 or at least and update to E3 2015.

That day has now come and gone and Nintendo stated that the game was not on in a “ready status” so would not be up for display or discussion at E3 this last year. The last update from Nintendo came in the form of a development update in March 2015, then silence. No updates, no videos just quiet.

While we are all excited for what possibilities this delayed release can give us with the new Zelda, we also would like some type of update to what we are expecting. Where most of us are expecting (from a hint at E3) later 2016, there have been rumors that we will not see this game reach until 2017 if at all.

Nintendo has scared us again with stating during E3 that Zelda U was becoming a “back burner” project. Meaning that its not being dropped from development but is also not a main focus or talking point.

This not only upset me but many other fans who are waiting for another full length Zelda story. Waiting since the last real update to the franchise, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword released in 2011 for the Wii.

Since the release announcement in 2013 the following Zelda appearances have happened:

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (Nintendo 3DS: 2013)

The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes (Nintendo 3DS: 2015) – Online friends required.

Official Remakes:

Ocarina of Time | 3DS release (remake)

Majoras Mask | 3DS release (remake)

Appeared in:

Mario Kart 8 – May 30, 2014 (Added Character)

Hyrule Warriors – August 14, 2014

Smash Bros U – September 13, 2014

But still nothing with the newest Zelda game.
