Resident Evil has had a long history of providing gamers a sense of thrill as if they’re fighting for their own survival. In the trailer for its newest installment, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, you’re taken to Dulvey, Louisiana where locals have not heard from Jack or Marguerite Baker (residents of the Dulvey Haunted House) in quite some time.
The clip places us in the shoes of a woman fending for her life as she tries to duck and dodge the house’s unfriendly occupants. As the suspense builds, you’re then welcomed by a surprise host who aims to make your journey more difficult than expected.
The trailer also confirms that Capcom will be returning to the series’ roots when it comes to gameplay, focusing on traditional exploration puzzles that fans of the original titles will appreciate. Resident Evil’s classic inventory system will also make a return in biohazard.
Capcom also mentions in a blog post that the graphical effects of the found footage tape do not represent what the actual game will look like.
“While the young woman may be the focus of this particular found footage video tape segment, you won’t be playing as her in the main game,” Capcom said.
Resident Evil 7 was officially announced during Sony’s E3 2016 briefing in June.
The game is set to be released Jan. 24 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. The game will also be available in full VR for Sony’s highly anticipated PS4 add on, PlayStation VR.
