Top 10 SEGA Saturn Games Jary Zaidi November 16, 2015 Gaming, Retro The Sega Saturn was a 32-bit fifth-generationhome video game console that was developed by Sega and released on November 22, 1994, in Japan, May 11, 1995, in North America and July 8, 1995, It was the successor of Sega Genesis. I have prepared a list of Sega Saturn’s best games, And i hope that you guys will like my list. 10. Quake Quake is a first person shooter developed by id Software and was originally released for DOS computers in 1996. It was subsequently brought to a variety of other platforms including the Sega Saturn in the following year. The Sega Saturn version of the game was converted by Lobotomy Software and published by Sega. Quake stands as one of id Software’s most successful and milestone among first person shooters. It popularised the use of 3D models in FPS titles (as opposed to using 2D sprites and “2.5D” environments as witnessed in Doom), as well as pre-rendered lightmaps, an engine which could be modified by the community and several important advances in network multiplayer. 9. Astal The 32-bit generation was marked as the great passing of 2D games, but nobody told SEGA. Astal is a brilliant, gorgeous side-scrolling adventure game that is memorable for its captivating look and methodical platforming. As the super-strong Astal, you must pound through hundreds of crystalline enemies to rescue Leda from the evil demon Jerado. Astal is aided by a bird companion that can interfere with enemies and bring back items. The game came out early in the Saturn’s lifespan and was largely ignored — no thanks to the garish box art. But those that did take Astal home cherished this beautiful example of a fading genre. 8. Panzer Dragoon Panzer Dragoon (パンツァードラグーン) is a 3D “on-the-rails” shoot-’em up game developed by Team Andromeda in 1995. It was originally released for the Sega Saturn, becoming one of the flagship titles of the console, and one of the few games available at launch in North America and Europe. 7. Saturn Bomberman Saturn Bomberman is easily one of the top ten multiplayer console games, thanks to its huge 10-player fields that were loaded with laughter and mayhem. The single-player game is a fine Bomberman specimen, but with multitaps (the Japanese version shipped with one shaped like Bomberman’s head) the 10-player game steals the show. The game features sharp visuals even when the camera is pulled back far enough to see the whole stage and it is arguable that no Bomberman game since this edition has controlled as well. 6. SEGA Rally Championship Sega Rally Championship (セガラリー・チャンピオンシップ), also known simply asSega Rally or occasionally by the extended title of Sega Rally Championship 1995, is an arcade racing game developed by Sega AM5 for Sega Model 2A CRX arcade hardware. It was released in 1995 to critical acclaim, and is the first in the Sega Rallyseries. 5. Virtua Cop Virtua Cop (バーチャコップ) is an arcade shooter game created by Sega AM2 for Sega Model 2 hardware in 1994. It is the first in the Virtua Cop series. It was one of the first light-gun games to take place in a 3D world. Virtua Cop‘s arcade success meant it was ported to the Sega Saturn in 1995 and later to PC in 1997. 4.Panzer Dragoon II Zwei Panzer Dragoon Zwei (パンツァードラグーン ツヴァイ), also known as Panzer Dragoon II and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, is an “on-rails” shoot ’em up game released exclusively for the Sega Saturn. It was the second Panzer Dragoon game released but it is a prequel of the series. It was developed by Team Andromeda, one of Sega’s internal development studios. 3.Virtua Fighter 2 Virtua Fighter 2 (バーチャファイター２) is a fighting game developed by Sega AM2 and published by Sega as is the direct sequel to Virtua Fighter. It is, as the name suggests, the second game in the Virtua Fighter series, and was originally released for Sega Model 2A CRX arcade hardware in 1994. Virtua Fighter 2 was known for its breakthrough graphics and animation, rendering 3D characters and backgrounds with filtered texture mapping and introducing motion capture animation technology to the game industry. 2. NiGHTS into Dreams NiGHTS into Dreams is a video game developed by Sonic Team, and was originally released for the Sega Saturn in mid-1996. It was the first game to be produced by Sonic Team not feature Sonic the Hedgehog, and debuted with the 3D Control Pad,Sega’s answer to the Nintendo 64’s innovative controller. 1. Panzer Dragoon SAGA Panzer Dragoon Saga, called Azel: Panzer Dragoon RPG (ＡＺＥＬ -パンツァードラグーンＲＰＧ-) in Japan, is a critically-acclaimed role-playing game released exclusively for the Sega Saturn in 1998. It was the third Panzer Dragoon game to be released and so far remains the only game in the series that is not a Rail Shooter.
