The Witcher is an action role-playing hack and slash video game developed by CD Projekt RED and published by Atari. The game is based on the novel series of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher takes place in a medieval fantasy world and follows the story of Geralt, one of a few remaining Witchers – traveling monster hunters for hire who have supernatural powers. The game’s system of “moral choices” as part of the storyline was noted for its time-delayed consequences and lack of black-and-white morality.
Protagonist Geralt from the Witcher series has climbed the success ladder since making the jump from novels to gaming. Poland is so proud of this fictional character, Poctza Polska, Poland’s biggest postal service is collaborating with developer CD Projekt in creating this official Polish postage stamp. It’ll be a limited run of 180k stamps.
How cool is Poland to have a fictional sex crazed monster hunter from a book and video game on an official postage stamp? Video games seemed to have risen to the status of equals in the entertainment world with music and Hollywood. From Mario rising out of a warp pipe at the Olympics, to Geralt on a postage stamp, to gaming being merchandised everywhere we look. Gaming has made its mark on society for sure, and is becoming the most popular form of entertainment. Even old folks are leaving the nursing homes with their walkers to play Pokemon Go. It is a strange and wonderful era to be alive.
Just in case your unfamiliar with Geralt or The Witcher series, I added a cinematic trailer from The Withcher 3 below. As an example of the games popularity, this video got 6,682,664 views at the time of me creating this article.
