Oculus has announced that the Oculus Video app on Gear VR would incorporate a new Facebook video tab that lets users connect their Facebook and Oculus accounts to bring personalized information to one’s VR content absorption experience.
In November, Samsung released the Gear VR in collaboration with Facebook’s Oculus VR. Upon unveiling the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, Samsung promised that preordering either phone will also get you a free Gear VR.
And that device is about to get much better. Tomorrow, anyone with a Samsung Gear VR will be able to create a profile, search for friends on the platform, and leave user reviews for all apps in the Oculus Store.
Next up, Oculus is adding two new social games specifically made for virtual reality. Both support up to four players.
Oculus mentioned via a blogpost, “The immersive sense of virtual reality is even more compelling with friends. Today we’re adding new, made-for-VR games to Gear VR that let you team up with friends or compete against people from all over the world.” It also stated, “We’ve also added the ability to create rooms with friends in Oculus Social. Now you can watch Twitch or Vimeo streams in a room with people you know.”
In the coming weeks, users will also be able to like and share their favorite Facebook 360 videos from within VR and the company also says that it will release new tools for developers that make it easier to create more social VR games and apps.
