Another Year in the Books

We may still be in the middle of the Holiday season, but that hasn’t stopped Microsoft from announcing their latest Games with Gold titles. Players with an Xbox Live Gold subscription will receive World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap and Killer Instinct Season 2 Ultra Edition for Xbox One, and The Cave along with Rayman Origins for the Xbox 360. Both titles for the Xbox 360 are playable on Xbox One through backwards compatibility.

From Neocore Games, World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap is a tower-defense game with action RPG elements. With three playable classes, Deathtrap gives players multiple ways to approach each level. Fans of RPGs will feel right at home as they hunt for rare loot and upgrades for their traps and weapons. In Deathtrap players can fight off hordes of mythical creatures alone, or with others through a cooperative campaign. Deathtrap is free throughout January.

Beefing up the 2013 reboot of Killer Instinct, Season 2 Ultra Edition adds eight additional fighters. Old favorites of the series make a return, including TJ Combo, Riptor, and Cinder. Season 2 Ultra Edition also includes the arcade version of Killer Instinct 2, for those itching to take a nostalgic trip. Killer Instinct Season 2 Ultra Edition will be available for free from Jan. 16 to Feb. 15.

The Cave, a side-scrolling, adventure game from Double Fine Productions, has players build a team from seven explorers. Each explorer brings their own unique abilities as well as their own motives for entering the cave. What players experience while exploring the cave will change based on their team of three, making The Cave great for multiple playthroughs. The Cave is available for free Jan. 1-15.

From the mind behind Rayman and Beyond Good & Evil, comes the next chapter in the Rayman series. Rayman Legends, released in 2012, takes players through 12 unique 2D worlds with over 60 levels filled with secrets and epic boss fights. You don’t have to fight alone. Rayman Origins supports co-op up to four players. Rayman Origins will be available for free Jan. 16-31.

December Games with Gold title, Outlast is still available until Jan. 15.
