Dark Souls Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Officially Confirmed

Microsoft has officially confirmed the original Dark Souls will be available to play on Xbox One through backwards compatibility.

As the leak detailed, the game will also be available for free to those that digital pre-order Dark Souls 3 on the console. This pre-order bonus is available “for a limited time.”

Fallout 4 saw a similar pre-order bonus on Xbox One, allowing fans to download and play Fallout 3 for free.

The North American Xbox One store has revealed that there will be two versions of the Dark Souls 3 pre-order on Xbox One: a standard $59.99 version and a deluxe $84.99 version that includes a Season Pass promising access to 2 DLC packs. Both of these come with a backwards-compatible version of the original Dark Souls. The deal doesn’t yet appear to be live on the UK Xbox store.

Microsoft recently bulked up the list of games available past the 130 mark, and it doesn’t look like they’re going to be stopping anytime soon.

Xbox’s Larry Hryb recently announced that Trials HD, Sam & Max, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare and LEGO Batman are now playable on Xbox One via BC.

Fans had hoped to see the return of Red Dead Redemption, which was accidentally made available on Xbox One before being removed again.

Dark Souls 3 launches on April 12 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
