A pretty interesting collaboration has been announced this morning. Though seen as competitors in the realm of online RPG gaming, Sega and Square Enix has revealed this morning at a Phantasy Star event that the two companies will be coming together with a collaboration in their games, Sega’s Phantasy Star Online 2 and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV. A trailer for the two games’ union was released, and can be viewed here.
Phantasy Star Online 2 will be receiving some Final Fantasy-themed content such as Miqo’te outfits along with other items. Final Fantasy’s summon Odin will also be making his appearance as a new boss, though he isn’t slated to come out until this summer. There has been no word just yet as to whether Final Fantasy XIV will be seeing some Phantasy Star Online themed stuff in it’s game.
Right now, Phantasy Star Online 2 is only available in Japan, while Final Fantasy XIV is available worldwide. Right now in Japan, Phantasy Star Online 2 is available on PlayStation Vita, mobile, and PC, though a PlayStation 4 version of the title has been stated to release outside of Japan sometime this year.
What are your thoughts on the two companies coming together to combine certain parts of their games into one another’s?
