Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion: HD Renovation

I never had the pleasure of playing the original version of Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion, so I decided to do a lets play of the new HD Renovation.

Initially I expected just a cute game of exploration. The first 50 rooms or so through me off a bit. I was starting to lose hope of any type of real scare factor when I started taking damage. Though the game is designed with a cute childish look, things get a little intense when your running for your life.

I’m not sure if you can take a wrong turn and get stuck. During my 250 room play-through I might have just got lucky. It seemed like as I progressed the enemies became faster, stronger, and more relentless.

I wasn’t really sure if I was going to like this game or not at first. I actually ended up thinking it was a lot of fun. It does get repetitive pretty fast, and I don’t think it has much replay value. Overall I think I’ll rate it with a positive review score.

WHY THIS IS A NEW GAME:

As you might know the original Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion was written in GameMaker 8 – which only has the most rudimentary of 3D support. In order to add features like 3D specimens, VR, Mac & Linux ports, and to fix a lot of the nagging issues (like getting stuck on corners) and other much-requested features it has to be rewritten from the ground up! We’re taking this opportunity to add all that and more in Unity – which is a modern fully featured natively 3D engine that is a lot easier to work with for this kind of game than old GameMaker.
