A nine-year-old boy was killed in a car accident in central Japan involving a truck driver playing the popular Pokemon Go game while driving, authorities said Thursday.
The accident occurred at approximately 4:10 p.m. local time on Wednesday, Oct. 26, in the city of Ichinomiya in Aichi Prefecture. The boy, a fourth-grade student named Keita Noritake, was walking home from school when he was hit by a truck while crossing a street. He died two hours later.
The 36-year-old driver of the truck, Nobusuke Kawai, has since been arrested. The local police say he admits to playing the game while driving, something he says he frequently does when in a car.
