Summer is just about over, but that doesn’t mean it has to go out with a whimper. Respawn Entertainment has announced that the multiplayer beta for Titanfall 2 will be available to PS4 and Xbox One players this weekend from Aug.19-21. Players who miss out this weekend will have a second opportunity to play the beta from Aug. 26-28.
Two months ahead of the game’s release, the open beta will give players their first exposure to two new titan models, Ion and Scorch. The Ion titan is built for speed. Equipped with the rapidfire Splitter Rifle, Ion can quickly create carnage and then vanish across the map.
The Scorch titan takes a page from the book of the Ogre titan. Scorch is slow compared to other models, but when it comes to holding its position, it is a brick house. Additionally, Scorch uses many fire-based weapons, which quickly engulf the opposition.
With the open beta players will also have access to three gametypes, Bounty Hunt, Pilots vs. Pilots, and Amped Hardpoint.
Bounty Hunt is a brand new mode in which two opposing teams are pitted against a third A.I. controlled team. Players earn points by killing opposing players along with grunts and spectres, but those points only count once a player has deposited them.
Pilots vs. Pilots takes titans out of the equation. With no steel giants to combat, players must count on their speed and mobility to outsmart the opposing team.
Amped Hardpoint brings a new twist to Hardpoint Domination. Defending hardpoints now allows players to amp them. With an amped hardpoint teams collect double the points of a normal hardpoint.
Bounty Hunt and Pilots vs. Pilots will be available for both weekend. Amped Hardpoint will will only be available for the second weekend.
Players will find themselves busy with numerous maps, weapons, and abilities all slated to appear in the beta. Titanfall 2 releases on October 28 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
