To celebrate Final Fantasy VIII’s 17th anniversary, Materia Collective has released the six-disc arrangement tribute album “SUCCESSOR: Final Fantasy VIII Remixed” over on Loudr, iTunes, and Spotify. It’s the follow-up to last year’s “Final Fantasy VII Remixed.”
Successor: Final Fantasy VIII Remixed is a six-disc, multi-hour collection that was created by more than 150 composers, arrangers, and YouTube personalities (full credit list here) who have provided their own take on the game’s soundtrack. It was originally composed by Nobuo Uematsu, but the new arrangements are described by production company Materia Collective as “unique and imaginative.”
That is indeed the case, as you can hear for yourself in preview samples embedded in this post.
“After our debut album, MATERIA, choosing Final Fantasy VIII as a follow-up tribute album was the next logical choice, and aligning the release with the game’s release anniversary seemed poignant,”said Sebastian Wolff, Materia Collective founder.
Final Fantasy VIII came out 17 years ago in North America on Feb. 11, 1999.
It took just three months to produce the follow-up to the “MATERIA” album, but the strict time frame was no problem for the production company because of the dedication and talent of the artists part of making “SUCCESSOR” a reality.
